MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — Police have identified the victims of a tragic shooting that occurred on Labor Day afternoon at Stafford Park in Maple Heights. A pregnant woman and her husband were killed in the incident, which has left the community in shock.

The police were alerted to the shooting at around 3 p.m. during a gathering at the park. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of 30-year-old Mercedes Iverson in a vehicle, while the body of her 31-year-old husband, Norbert Carter, was found in a park bathroom. Tragically, the unborn baby of the pregnant woman also did not survive.

A 13-year-old boy who was present at the scene was injured in the shooting but is expected to recover. According to authorities, the suspected shooter, identified as Jason Iverson, is the pregnant woman’s brother. He arrived at the park with the intention of confronting his family, with whom he had been involved in an ongoing feud. The victims attempted to leave the park in their car, but the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the woman and the bystander.

After shooting the victims, the suspect fled the scene and was pursued by law enforcement. He was apprehended on Auburn Avenue shortly after the incident. Jason Iverson is now in police custody and will face charges of murder and attempted murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
