James Long Arrested After Burglary at Niles Home with 8 Kids Inside; Faces Charges, Arraignment Scheduled

A 19-year-old man from Niles, Ohio, was arrested after breaking into a house with a family inside. The suspect entered the home through the garage door and was confronted by the father, who subdued him. Police arrived and apprehended the suspect, who now faces charges of burglary. C. NILES, Ohio (WKBN) — A shocking incident unfolded in Niles on Sunday when a resident bravely fought off a burglar who broke into their home while the family was inside. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old James Long, now faces charges as a result of his audacious crime.

The incident took place around 12:30 a.m. when the Niles Police Department received a distress call regarding an ongoing burglary at a residence on Beaver Avenue. Responding swiftly, officers found Long on the enclosed front porch of the house upon their arrival.

According to the police report, the family residing in the house had contacted the authorities after one of their children alerted them to the presence of an intruder. By the time the call was made, Long had managed to infiltrate the property by entering through the back garage door, navigating through the hallway, and eventually making his way into the living room.

The father of the family demonstrated immense bravery as he confronted Long head-on. He forcefully threw the intruder down the stairs before restraining him on the enclosed porch. In a moment of sheer desperation, Long resorted to smashing his head through the plexiglass window on the house’s door.

Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene promptly and, with guns drawn, ordered Long to step away from the porch. He was swiftly apprehended and taken into custody.

James Long now faces a burglary charge and has been remanded to the Trumbull County Jail. His arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, where he will face the consequences of his actions.
