Illinois Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase and Crash in LaGrange County, Indiana

LAGRANGE, Ind. (WISH) — An Illinois resident was apprehended on Sunday night and is now facing criminal charges in LaGrange County after allegedly leading state troopers on a high-speed pursuit, which ultimately resulted in a single-vehicle crash in Michigan.

The incident unfolded at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday when a state trooper noticed a white BMW passenger vehicle traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph on Interstate 90 near the 114-mile marker. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Adrian Martinez, failed to comply with the trooper’s attempt to initiate a traffic stop and instead accelerated away.

According to police reports, Martinez reached speeds of up to 150 mph at one point before exiting the Toll Road. Undeterred, he continued his reckless driving, heading southbound on SR 9, then east on County Road 700 N, and finally northbound on LaGrange CR 375 E from CR 700 N, all while maintaining speeds over 100 mph.

Recognizing the danger posed by the high-speed pursuit, the ISP Toll Road Post Command ordered the pursuing trooper to discontinue the chase and alerted the St. Joe County Police Department about the ongoing incident involving the white BMW.

Medical assistance was promptly provided, and Martinez was subsequently transported to Parkview Hospital in LaGrange for treatment.

Following his release from the hospital, Martinez was taken into the custody of the Indiana State Police (ISP). As of Monday afternoon, he remains held at the LaGrange County Jail and is facing preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.

Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the incident, aiming to gather additional evidence and determine the full extent of any damage caused during the high-speed chase and subsequent crash.
