In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old woman flight attendant, identified as Rupal Ogrey, was brutally killed in her apartment in Mumbai. The suspect, a housekeeping staffer of the building named Vikram Athwal, has been arrested by the police. The gruesome crime occurred on Sunday night in the N G Complex on Krishanlal Marwah Marg, located in the Marol area of suburban Andheri.

The victim, who hailed from Chhattisgarh, had come to Mumbai in April this year for training with Air India. Her life was tragically cut short when she was found dead in her flat. According to police sources, Athwal, who had been performing housekeeping duties in the residential society for the past year, and Ogrey frequently engaged in arguments over trivial matters. This raises suspicions of a possible motive behind the heinous act.

Based on preliminary investigations, it was revealed that Athwal gained entry into Ogrey’s flat under the pretense of collecting a garbage bag and cleaning the commode. However, once inside, he locked the door and took out a nine-inch sharp weapon that he had brought along. Ogrey tried to defend herself, but Athwal forcefully grabbed her hair from behind and slit her throat mercilessly.

During the struggle, Athwal sustained a significant injury and some scratches on his hand as the victim fought back. After allegedly killing Ogrey, Athwal locked the flat and returned to his own residence in Tunga village, located in the Powai area. His peculiar behavior and blood-stained clothes aroused suspicion in his wife, who confronted him about the stains. However, Athwal evaded her questions and proceeded to clean his attire.

Upon receiving no response to their calls, Ogrey’s concerned family members contacted their friends in Mumbai and requested them to check on her. To their horror, the friends discovered the flat locked and received no response despite ringing the doorbell repeatedly. Fearing the worst, they immediately contacted the Powai police, who assisted them in gaining access to the flat using a duplicate key. Inside, they found Ogrey lying lifeless, her throat brutally slit.

Medical professionals from the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital were summoned, but sadly, Ogrey was pronounced dead even before she could be admitted. An anonymous police officer revealed that the murder appeared to be premeditated. Investigations unveiled that Athwal had purchased the murder weapon from a hardware shop in the Marol area only three days prior to the incident. However, the weapon has yet to be recovered.

Athwal, a married man with two daughters, is currently under scrutiny to determine if he has any prior criminal history. The police have registered a case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and authorities are awaiting the medical report.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Ogrey shared the flat with her sister and her sister’s boyfriend. However, the duo had left for their native place eight days prior to the tragic incident. The police are exploring all possible leads to ensure justice is served in this horrific crime.
