Former Chancery Clerk Bill Plunk Passes Away at 83

Bill Plunk, a long-time resident of Oxford, passed away at the age of 83 on October 9, 2024. He served as the Chancery Clerk of Lafayette County for nearly three decades before retiring. Following his retirement, he spent the last 20 years of his life on a farm, buying and selling cows and attending livestock sales.

Visitation for Bill Plunk will be held today from 3 to 6 p.m. at North Oxford Baptist Church, followed by a celebration of life at 6 p.m. officiated by Bro. Randy Bain. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is handling the arrangements.

Originally from Bruce, Bill moved to Oxford in 1962 to attend Ole Miss and never left. He was a dedicated fan of Ole Miss football, attending games at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium until ticket prices became too high. He then enjoyed watching games from the comfort of his own home.

Bill was a faithful member of North Oxford Baptist Church for over 60 years. He is survived by his daughter, Jenny Edwards, his son, Jason Plunk, three grandchildren, one brother, one sister, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Plunk.
