A tragic incident unfolded west of Winnemucca on Wednesday when a man lost his life in a collision between a car and a big rig. The Nevada State police reported that the crash occurred just after 5:15 p.m. on I-80 in Pershing County, approximately 20 miles west of Winnemucca.
According to authorities, a white Toyota Corolla was traveling east on I-80 in the far right eastbound lane. At the same time, a big rig was also in the same lane, moving slowly due to a wildfire that had closed a section of I-80 nearer to Winnemucca. The Corolla rear-ended the big rig and ended up underneath it as a result of the impact.
Tragically, the driver of the Corolla, identified as 65-year-old Lawerence Neely from East Carbon, Utah, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. There were no other passengers in the vehicle with him, and the driver of the big rig escaped unharmed.
