I’m saddened to share the news of the passing of former Missouri State Representative James Stephen “Steve” Hodges Sr. at the age of 75. He left us on Wednesday, October 9 after battling an extended illness. Hodges dedicated eight years of service to southeast Missouri as a state representative from 2007 to 2014.

Born in 1949 and raised in East Prairie, Missouri, Hodges was a proud graduate of East Prairie High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball. His dedication to education continued at Southeast Missouri State University, where he became the first two-term president of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, graduating in 1971. He furthered his education by earning a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1972.

In addition to his academic achievements, Hodges found love and family in East Prairie. He married his wife Amy at Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church, where they raised three sons and welcomed two grandsons. Together with his father, he owned and operated Tru-Value IGA until 2005.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Hodges remained deeply involved in his community. He served on the East Prairie R-2 School Board for 13 years, volunteered at his home church, and coached and refereed youth sports.
