A former Washington police officer suspected of killing his ex-wife and girlfriend and kidnapping a one-year-old child before fleeing to Oregon is dead after a standoff on Interstate 5 in Eugene, according to Oregon police.

Suspect Identified as Former Yakima Police Officer Elias Huizar

Traffic officials closed all lanes on the southbound side of the freeway from mileposts 209 to 196 in Eugene after reports of a suspect speeding through the area just before 3 p.m. The man reportedly crashed near Milepost 197, according to the Oregon State Police. Shots were fired during the chase, leading to the death of the suspect.

Child Safe in Police Custody

Oregon State Police confirmed that a child was in the vehicle and is now safe in police custody. The incident caused severe traffic congestion in both directions, with detours being implemented through Harrisburg.

Amber Alert Issued for Missing 1-Year-Old

An Amber Alert was issued from Washington after authorities reported that a man had killed his ex-wife and girlfriend and abducted his 1-year-old son. The suspect, identified as Elias Huizar, was considered armed and dangerous and believed to be heading south to Oregon.

Chase and Standoff Details

According to law enforcement reports, Huizar killed a woman outside William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland, Washington, on Monday before fleeing the scene. A second woman’s body was later discovered at his residence during a search warrant execution.
