Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Police Crack Down on Dangerous Drivers in Batley and Spen

Over the weekend, the Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team, along with colleagues from the Roads Policing Unit, conducted a targeted operation to tackle the five key causes of serious collisions in the area. This initiative is part of a ‘rolling’ series of operations aimed at improving road safety and reducing the number of accidents on the roads.

During the operation, which covered areas such as Cleckheaton, Batley, Birkenshaw, and Birstall, a total of 19 drivers and riders were caught committing various offences. These included not having insurance, not wearing seatbelts, using a mobile phone while driving, running a red light, driving without due care and attention, and speeding.

Seizures and Enforcement Actions

As a result of the operation, one stolen motorbike was seized, and another vehicle was confiscated by the DVLA. The offenders were issued with Traffic Offence Reports, which could lead to fines, penalty points, or other enforcement measures.

This crackdown on dangerous driving follows similar enforcement actions in Huddersfield and North Kirklees in recent weeks, where more than 20 vehicles were seized for motoring offences. The fatal 5 offences, including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, drink and drug driving, using a mobile phone, and careless driving, have been identified as the main causes of serious collisions.

Commitment to Road Safety

West Yorkshire Police is dedicated to achieving Vision Zero, a road safety goal established in collaboration with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries. Inspector Charlotte Nicholls of the Batley and Spen NPT emphasized the importance of reducing serious casualty collisions and the focus on addressing the Fatal 5 offences.

Residents of Batley and Spen can expect to see more operations in their communities in the coming weeks, with a particular emphasis on seatbelt compliance, drink and drug driving, mobile phone use, and speeding. The public is encouraged to report any instances of dangerous or anti-social driving by submitting footage to the Operation Snap webpage or contacting their local NPT.
