Tragic Helicopter Collision at Royal Malaysian Navy Camp Claims Ten Lives

In a tragic incident that shocked the nation, ten individuals lost their lives when two helicopters collided mid-air and crashed at the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) camp in Lumut, Perak. The incident took place during a rehearsal for a Royal Malaysian Navy celebration event scheduled from May 3–5.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre officer-in-charge, Saiful Rizan Sulaiman, revealed that they received a distress call at approximately 9.50 am, prompting immediate response teams to the scene.

Three victims from one of the helicopters were confirmed deceased by Health Ministry (MOH) officials, while efforts are underway to extract four of the seven victims from the second helicopter’s wreckage.

The Royal Malaysian Navy confirmed that the two helicopters involved in the collision were identified as models HOM (M503-3) and Fennec (M502-6). The incident, which occurred at 9.32 am, claimed the lives of all ten individuals on board, with seven in one helicopter and three in the other.

All deceased victims were transferred to the Lumut Royal Malaysian Navy Base military hospital for identification purposes. An investigation board will be established to probe the cause of the tragic collision, while the navy has urged the public to refrain from sharing videos of the incident out of respect for the victims’ families and to aid in the investigation process.
