Tragic House Fire Claims Life of Woman in Baldwin County

A devastating house fire in Baldwin County, Georgia, has left a community in mourning as a 63-year-old woman lost her life in the blaze. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at a residence on Vinson Highway, where firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames and thick black smoke.

Firefighters Battle Intense Blaze

The brave firefighters from Baldwin County Fire Rescue and Milledgeville Fire Rescue Services worked tirelessly for about 90 minutes to extinguish the fire. The intensity of the flames caused the brick home to be completely gutted, with the fire spreading from one side of the dwelling to the other.

Tragic Discovery Inside the Home

During a search of the interior, firefighters made a heartbreaking discovery – the lifeless body of Pamela Dianne Newsome, who lived at the residence. The victim was found in a rear bedroom, where she had been unable to escape the rapidly spreading fire.

Critical Injuries and Heroic Rescue

Another occupant of the home, Harold Carter Newsome, 66, sustained critical injuries in the fire. He was rescued from the front porch along with another resident, Gary Crosson, by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Thomas Coley. Newsome was later transferred to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center for treatment of thermal burns and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters Injured in Rescue Efforts

Two firefighters, Roger Reid and Tony Price, also suffered injuries while battling the blaze. Reid, a full-time firefighter, sustained second-degree burns to his arms and was taken to the burn center for treatment. Price was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene before receiving further medical care.

Investigation Ongoing

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are treating the incident as suspicious. The investigation into the tragic event continues as the community comes to terms with the loss of a beloved resident.
