Police Crack Down on Dangerous Drivers in Batley and Spen

Over the weekend, West Yorkshire Police launched an operation in Batley and Spen to tackle the five main causes of serious crashes on the roads. This initiative aimed to address issues such as speeding, not wearing seatbelts, drink and drug driving, using a mobile phone while driving, and careless driving.

During the patrol in Cleckheaton, Batley, Birkenshaw, and Birstall, officers caught 19 drivers and riders committing various offences. Among the offenders were five drivers without insurance, four not wearing seatbelts, two using mobile phones while driving, one running a red light, one driving without due care and attention, and one speeding driver.

All individuals caught breaking the law were issued with Traffic Offence Reports, which could result in fines, penalty points, or other enforcement actions. Additionally, one stolen motorbike was seized, and another vehicle was confiscated by the DVLA.

This crackdown on dangerous drivers follows similar enforcement efforts in Huddersfield and North Kirklees in recent weeks. More than 20 vehicles were seized during these previous operations for various motoring offences.

West Yorkshire Police is committed to Vision Zero, a road safety initiative aimed at eliminating all traffic fatalities and severe injuries in the region. Inspector Charlotte Nicholls of the Batley and Spen NPT emphasized the importance of reducing serious casualty collisions on the roads by targeting key offences.

Residents of Batley and Spen can expect to see more operations in their communities in the coming weeks as authorities continue to prioritize road safety. Anyone with footage of dangerous or anti-social driving in West Yorkshire is encouraged to contact the police via their Operation Snap webpage or by calling 101.
