Another Tragic Incident Shakes Bokkos Community in Plateau State

April 23, (THEWILL)- The tranquil community of Bokkos in Plateau State was rocked by yet another shocking incident, less than a week after the tragic killing of a 200-level computer science student from the Plateau State University. This time, the victim was identified as Mr Joseph Matindiong Jelmang, a youth whose life was allegedly cut short by a trigger-happy soldier during a birthday celebration at a relaxation center in Marish community.

The Unfortunate Events Unfold

According to reports, the soldier, known only as “Godwin”, began firing random shots from his service weapon in a reckless manner, resulting in the untimely death of Mr Jelmang. The incident has sparked outrage among the residents of Bokkos, who are demanding justice for the slain youth.

Outcry for Justice

The Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard has condemned the heinous act and the subsequent attempts to conceal the crime by falsely accusing innocent passersby and residents who tried to save Mr Jelmang’s life. The community leaders have called on the Federal and Plateau State governments to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.

Seeking Accountability

In a joint statement, the BCDC Vanguard reiterated their demand for swift and decisive action by the military authorities and the state Attorney General to apprehend and prosecute the soldier responsible for the senseless killing. They also called for the immediate release of individuals who were wrongfully arrested in connection with the incident.

A Call for Change

The community leaders expressed their concerns about the growing display of impunity by armed security personnel in Bokkos and called for the government to replace the military with agencies better equipped to handle internal security. They emphasized the need for justice to prevail and for such barbaric acts to be met with severe consequences.
