Tragic Accident Claims Life of Castaic Man in Stevenson Ranch
Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal accident in Stevenson Ranch earlier this month as Mario Alberto Contreras Hernandez, a 39-year-old man from Castaic. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 12, at the intersection of The Old Road and Constitution Avenue.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, emergency responders were alerted to a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle and a person in the roadway. Hernandez was extracted from the vehicle and rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The passenger in the vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Initial investigations by the CHP indicate that Hernandez was driving northbound on The Old Road with a 23-year-old passenger in a 1999 Subaru Outback at the time of the crash. The report states that the driver made an unsafe turning movement to the left, resulting in a collision with the raised concrete center island. The vehicle then spun out of control, crashed into a tree, and ultimately came to a rest within the center island.
The cause of the tragic accident is still under investigation by authorities, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
