Tragic Discovery in the Waters off Helensburgh

The body of a young Faslane worker, Josh Gayton, has been formally identified after he was found in the water off the picturesque town of Helensburgh. The 21-year-old, who worked at the naval base, was last seen in the early hours of April 16 in Helensburgh.

Following extensive searches conducted by the Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence Police, a body was recovered on Sunday evening. It was later confirmed on Tuesday that the body belonged to Mr. Gayton, and his family was informed of the tragic news.

No Foul Play Suspected

Police Scotland has stated that the death of Josh Gayton is not being treated as suspicious. A police spokesperson said, “The body of a man recovered from the water off Helensburgh on Sun, April 21, has been formally identified as Josh Gayton, 21, who was reported missing in the town. His family have asked for privacy during this difficult time.”

Community Support for the Family

A fundraiser set up for Mr. Gayton’s family has exceeded expectations, surpassing £10,000 in donations within just two days. The initial target was £2,500, showing the outpouring of support from the community.

Police Scotland has also launched an internal inquiry into the handling of the circumstances surrounding Josh Gayton’s disappearance. The Royal Navy expressed their condolences, stating, “The thoughts and sympathies of the Royal Navy go out to ET (ME) Joshua Gayton’s family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.”
