Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Tragic Incident in Lafayette County, Wisconsin

In a recent development, three law enforcement officers involved in the detainment of a suspect in Lafayette County will not face any criminal charges. The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced this decision following the unfortunate death of the suspect in a hospital.

The incident took place on West Water Street, near North Iowa Street, in the City of Shullsburg. Officials responded to reports of a person “acting erratically” in the area just after 1 a.m. The individual, identified as Gregg Marcotte, was reportedly yelling and wandering the street, prompting law enforcement intervention.

Despite efforts to peacefully detain Marcotte, he allegedly resisted contact with the officers. Non-lethal means were used to gain control of the situation, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. The individual continued to resist, leading to a distressing turn of events.

Authorities administered lifesaving efforts on the scene before transporting Marcotte to a hospital, where he tragically passed away. Both Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a Darlington Police Department officer, who were involved in the incident, were equipped with body cameras, as well as squad cameras.

Following standard department protocol, the three law enforcement officials were placed on administrative leave. The Lafayette County District Attorney’s decision not to press charges has brought closure to this chapter, but questions still linger about the events that transpired that fateful night in Lafayette County.
