Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Orange County deputies in Florida arrested a man from Orlando on Sunday after he confessed to shooting his roommate in the face during an argument. The incident took place in a residential area in Orange County, Florida, where authorities were called to respond to a shooting just after midnight on Sunday.

Details of the Incident

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Kempton Anthony Smith, called the authorities himself to report that he had killed his roommate. According to the sheriff’s office, Smith claimed that he had to commit the homicide in self-defense while “tussling” with his roommate.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as Dylan Dempsey, in the living room of the home, face-down in a pool of blood. Despite sustaining a gunshot wound to the facial region, Dempsey was still alive when emergency personnel arrived and transported him to Orlando Regional Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit for treatment.

Witnesses’ Accounts

Witnesses at the scene revealed that Smith and Dempsey had been arguing over a female before the shooting occurred. One witness stated that Smith was playing with two guns and, after an argument with Dempsey, pointed one of the guns at his head and fired a round.

Another witness, who was with Smith after the shooting, reported that Smith asked for a ride to the airport to flee to Mexico. However, upon learning about the severity of the incident, the witness advised Smith to return home and report the incident to the authorities.

Legal Proceedings

When investigators tried to question Smith about the shooting, he immediately requested to speak with a lawyer. Based on witness statements and Smith’s own admission in the 911 call, authorities charged him with attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. Smith was subsequently booked into the Orange County jail and is being held without bond.
