The Arrest of a Stephens County Man in Athens

A Stephens County man, identified as a member of a street gang by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, was recently apprehended in Athens on warrants connecting him to a double shooting in Toccoa. Cornelius Devaughn Curry, aged 20, was taken into custody on April 18 on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime, aggravated battery, and violating the state’s gang prevention act.

The GBI disclosed that Curry was the main suspect in a drive-by shooting that took place on West Whitmire Street in Toccoa on March 31. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m., resulting in two individuals sustaining gunshot wounds to their torso. Both victims were treated at a nearby hospital and later discharged.
