A man was apprehended by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at the San Luis, Arizona port of entry for attempting to smuggle ammunition into Mexico. The incident occurred as the man was walking towards Mexico and caught the attention of the officer by constantly adjusting his pants and pulling down his shirt.

Suspicious Behavior Leads to Discovery

The CBP officer observed the man making suspicious movements as he approached the border. When questioned by the officer, the man denied having anything illegal on him. However, upon further inspection, the officer discovered over 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition hidden in the man’s clothing and a plastic tortilla bag.

Attempt to Conceal Evidence

After being taken into custody, Homeland Security Investigation agents tried to question the man and search his cellphone, only to find that the device had been remotely wiped, erasing all data. The man’s brother, who later arrived at the port of entry from Mexico, denied any knowledge of the ammunition and was allowed to re-enter the U.S.

Legal Consequences

The man, identified as Bryant Mitchell Pilgrim, is facing federal charges for smuggling goods from the United States, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. Pilgrim declined to cooperate with investigators, leading to his continued detention as the case unfolds.
