Carjacking Incident in George County, Mississippi

A Mobile man has been apprehended by the George County Sheriff’s Office after a terrifying carjacking incident that took place in the early hours of Sunday, April 21, 2024. The incident occurred on Highway 98 near the weigh station, where a female driver reported that her vehicle, with an adult passenger and her three children inside, was stolen. The victims included three children aged eleven, thirteen, and ten-months-old.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Demetrius Young from Mobile, Alabama, was swiftly captured by George County deputies during a traffic stop following the distress call made by the victim. Young was taken into custody and charged with carjacking and four counts of kidnapping.

After appearing before a George County Justice Court Judge, Young was assigned a $50,000 commercial bond for carjacking, along with a $50,000 commercial bond for each count of kidnapping, totaling $250,000. Currently, Young remains in custody at the George County Regional Correctional Facility.
