Accident – Death – Obituary News : A police officer tragically lost his life in a heartbreaking incident while transporting a psychiatric patient to a hospital in the Isaan province of Loei. The incident occurred on Ban Nongtana Road in the Pha Khao district of Loei province, where a police car overturned after the patient grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to crash. Three other police officers sustained injuries in the accident.

The accident was reported by a motorist who witnessed the overturned police car and alerted the Pha Khao Police Station. All the injured officers managed to exit the damaged vehicle safely, except for Police Captain Waeha Chaising, who remained trapped and unfortunately did not survive.

According to reports from the surviving officers, the tragic incident unfolded when the mother of the psychiatric patient sought police assistance as her son became uncontrollable. Four police officers responded to the call and went to the home of the patient in the Nong Hin district of Loei to address the situation.

After calming the patient, the officers decided to escort him to the hospital for further treatment. The mentally ill individual was allowed to sit inside the police pickup without restraints, accompanied by his mother. However, the situation took a tragic turn when the patient unexpectedly seized control of the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn. Waeha, who was sitting next to the driver, sustained serious injuries and was unable to escape the car, resulting in his untimely death.

Waeha was set to retire on September 30 after serving in the crime suppression department of the Pha Khao Police Station. He had planned to transition to standby duty within the station following the conclusion of the Songkran Festival, in preparation for his retirement.

The news of Waeha’s passing has elicited an outpouring of condolences from his family, friends, and colleagues on social media platforms. Many Thai netizens have raised concerns about the safety protocols for officers handling mentally ill patients and have questioned potential drug issues in Thailand, speculating about the patient’s history of drug use.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by police officers in the line of duty, highlighting the importance of implementing stringent safety measures in such situations.
