Tragic Incident in Dandeli

A heartbreaking incident took place in Dandeli, a picturesque town located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Six members of a family, including four children, met with a tragic accident and drowned in the backwaters of the Kali river near Akwada village of Birampali on a fateful Sunday evening.

Victims and Circumstances

The victims have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Hombal (40), Alviya Ahmad (10), Mohin Ahmad (6), residents of Ishwar Nagar in Hubballi, and Resha Unnisa Tausif Ahmad (38), Ifra Tousif Ahmad (15), and Abid Ahmad (12), residents of Bengaluru. The family had traveled from Hubballi to Dandeli for a leisure trip when the tragedy struck.

Tragic Turn of Events

According to reports, while the children were playing in the backwaters of the river, they accidentally slipped into the shallow waters. In a bid to rescue them, two elders also met with a watery grave. Among the eight tourists, only two managed to survive this horrific incident that has left the entire community in shock.

Search and Rescue Operations

Authorities have sprung into action, and a case has been registered at the Dandeli rural police station to investigate the matter further. Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Bhatkal, two individuals who went to play in the sea also faced a similar fate. One of the deceased has been identified as Inam Askeri (14), while efforts are underway to locate Mohmmed Kasif (22).
