Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting in Wilmington

Authorities in Wilmington have apprehended a suspect in relation to a tragic shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident took place in the 300 block of North Union Street, a bustling area in the heart of the city.

Details of the Shooting Incident

At around 1:38 a.m., officers from the Wilmington Police Department rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found a man, later identified as 35-year-old Lupe Bedolla-Castillo, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, Bedolla-Castillo tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation and Arrest

The case was swiftly taken over by Detective Kevin Nolan from the Criminal Investigations Division. Through meticulous investigative work, Detective Nolan was able to identify a suspect in the case – 43-year-old Francisco Valencia-Avila. Subsequently, warrants were issued for Valencia-Avila’s arrest, leading to his apprehension on the same day without any resistance.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Francisco Valencia-Avila now faces serious charges including Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon. Following his arrest, he was brought before the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after a bail of $500,000 cash-only was set.
