Tragic Gas Explosion Claims Lives in Sepe, Kumasi

It is with heavy hearts that we report on a devastating domestic gas explosion that has resulted in the loss of three lives and left one person injured in Sepe, a suburb of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.

Identifying the Victims

The victims of this tragic incident have been identified as Hamdella Jibril, aged 37, Kenyeyiti Meena-Lla Adam, aged 5, and Rafat Huruna, aged 18. The fourth victim, Majid Adams, is currently receiving medical treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Chain of Events

According to reports, Hamdella Jibril noticed a gas leak from their six-kilogram gas cylinder in the kitchen. In an attempt to investigate the source of the leak, Jibril unknowingly took the cylinder behind the kitchen where a coal pot was burning. The combination of gas leakage and open flames resulted in a tragic explosion, claiming the lives of three individuals and causing injuries to another.

Delayed Reporting and Investigation

The incident occurred on April 10, 2024, but shockingly, the family chose to bury the deceased without informing the authorities. It wasn’t until April 19, 2024, when an informant notified the police, prompting an investigation into the matter.

Police Involvement

Upon arriving at the scene in Sepe, the police interviewed three elders from the deceased family, confirming the details of the tragic event. The police report revealed that the deaths of the victims occurred on different dates, with one victim passing away on April 11, and the other two on April 17. The family members have been summoned by the police to aid in the ongoing investigation.
