Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 19-year-old man from Springfield, Benjamin Sugg, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated and causing the death of another person. The tragic incident occurred near Rogersville in the early hours of July 16, 2023.

Sugg was behind the wheel of a 2020 BMW X3 SUV when the crash took place on State Route D at Farm Road 253 in Greene County. The vehicle left the road, overturned, and tragically claimed the life of 17-year-old Gavaan Vehr, a passenger in the car. Another passenger sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Following the crash, Sugg attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office were able to track him down with the help of a witness and a canine unit. Sugg was subsequently arrested and found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.092%, above the legal limit for adults aged 21 and older in Missouri.

Amber Munnik, Gavaan’s mother, expressed mixed emotions following Sugg’s sentencing. She acknowledged that there are no winners in such a tragic situation, with her family facing the irreparable loss of their son and Sugg now facing a significant prison sentence.
