The Tragic Crash in Berlin Township: Woman Charged with DUI After Collision at Children’s Birthday Party

Over the weekend, a devastating incident shook the quiet town of Berlin Township in Monroe County. A 66-year-old woman is expected to face charges on Tuesday after allegedly driving drunk and crashing into a children’s birthday party, resulting in the deaths of two young siblings.

The Scene of the Accident

The crash occurred at the Swan Boat Club in Berlin Township at around 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Monroe County Sheriff described the scene as “extremely chaotic” as the woman’s car plowed about 25 feet into the building, causing immense devastation.

The Victims

Tragically, 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and her 4-year-old brother, Zayn Phillips, lost their lives in the crash. In addition to the siblings who were killed, nine others were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Identifying the Victims

Officials have identified the victims and provided updates on their conditions:
• 31-year-old woman remains in critical condition
• 11-year-old boy remains in critical condition
• 18-year-old girl in serious condition
• 16-year-old girl in serious condition
• 14-year-old boy in serious condition
• 70-year-old woman with minor injuries
• 66-year-old woman with minor injuries
• 62-year-old woman with minor injuries
• 57-year-old woman with minor injuries

Support for the Victims

Family members of the children killed have already raised over $175,000 through a GoFundMe page to support funeral services. Flat Rock Community Schools, where the siblings attended, provided counseling services for students and staff affected by the tragedy.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash and is urging anyone with information to come forward. The community is rallying together to support the victims and their families during this difficult time.
