A heated parking dispute in the bustling neighbourhood of Mayur Vihar in east Delhi took a dangerous turn when a 23-year-old man narrowly escaped being shot. The incident, which occurred on the night of April 14-15, left residents shocked and concerned about the escalating violence over parking spaces in the city.

The victim, identified as Vedant, had just finished playing badminton at a nearby park when he returned to find his car blocked by an SUV parked in front of a house in Mayur Vihar phase-2. After attempting to resolve the issue by ringing the doorbell, Vedant was met with resistance from the occupants, who informed him that the SUV belonged to residents on the second floor. This led to a confrontation with the owner, a lawyer named Shyam Singh Chauhan, who refused to move the vehicle, sparking a heated exchange.
Violent Turn of Events
As tensions escalated, Chauhan retrieved a licensed gun and fired at Vedant, narrowly missing him but hitting his car instead. The quick thinking of Vedant in alerting the authorities led to Chauhan’s arrest by the police. A case has been registered against Chauhan under section 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code and section 30 of the Arms Act based on Vedant’s statement.
