Guwahati, April 21: A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Assam’s Lakhimpur district following the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, where a professor of a government college lost his life in a tragic road accident. The unfortunate event took place in the early hours of Saturday as the professor was returning home after fulfilling his poll duty.

Details of the Accident

The fatal accident occurred at Mazgaon on National Highway No. 15 under the Silaneebari police outpost around 4.45 am. The professor, identified as Rajib Lekharu, was driving his car back home after serving as a presiding officer during the elections. Sadly, his vehicle collided with an oncoming bus, leading to his untimely demise at the scene of the accident.

Victim’s Identity

Rajib Lekharu, an assistant professor at Bihpuria College in Lakhimpur, was the dedicated individual who lost his life in the tragic road mishap. He had been assigned the crucial role of presiding officer for the first phase of general elections and had dutifully fulfilled his responsibilities before the unfortunate incident occurred.

The first phase of general elections for five parliamentary constituencies was conducted on April 19, with a notable voter turnout of 75.95 percent.
