Man Sets Pregnant Wife on Fire in Punjab Village

In a disturbing incident in Bulle Nangal village in Punjab’s Amritsar district, a man has been accused of murdering his pregnant wife by setting her on fire. The victim, identified as Pinky, 23, was expecting twins at the time of her tragic death. The accused, Sukhdev Singh, has been arrested by the police.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, before committing the heinous act, Sukhdev Singh allegedly tied Pinky to the bed to prevent her from escaping. The couple, who had been married for about three years, was known to have frequent arguments over domestic issues. The villagers in the area have expressed shock and disbelief at the horrific nature of the crime.

Police Investigation

Gurvinder Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Byas Police Station, stated that the accused, who worked as a labourer, set fire to his wife during a domestic dispute. The exact cause of the argument is currently under investigation by the authorities. The police have taken possession of the burnt body, and all the household belongings were destroyed in the fire.

Response from National Commission for Women

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the incident and condemned the brutal act. In a statement, the NCW Chairperson, Rekha Sharma, expressed her shock and called for swift action against the perpetrator. The NCW has written to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, urging for the arrest of the accused and a detailed action report to be submitted within three days.
