Authorities in Columbus, Georgia are currently investigating a heartbreaking incident that occurred late Saturday night, resulting in the death of a Meriwether County high school student and leaving another student injured. The tragic event took place on Macon Road near Lake Shore Road in Columbus, where police responded to reports of gunshots around 11:50 p.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement found two vehicles with gunshot damage and two individuals inside, both having sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were promptly transported to Piedmont Hospital for medical attention, where one of them, identified as Daryus Bryant, tragically succumbed to his injuries at 12:53 a.m. on Sunday. The other victim underwent emergency surgery.
