Two people tragically killed in separate road accidents in city

On the morning of April 21, 2024, residents of Dhaka were shocked by two separate road accidents that claimed the lives of two individuals in different areas of the city. The incidents, which occurred in Zero Point and Malibagh Railgate, have left the community devastated.

In Zero Point, a collision between a cement-laden cargo truck and a passenger bus resulted in the tragic death of a young female garment worker. The victim, identified as Ayesha Akhter, 20, hailing from Charbunia village in Patuakhali Sadar upazila, lost her life in the early hours of the morning. Her husband, Khairul Islam, 25, was also injured in the accident.

Authorities at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Police Camp confirmed the heartbreaking incident, with OC Md. Bachchu Mia stating, “The victim was rushed to the emergency ward of DMCH, where she was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.”

Meanwhile, in Malibagh Railgate, a man met a tragic end after being struck by a speeding train while crossing the railway line. The deceased, identified as Abdul Wadud, 58, a resident of Burichang Thana in Cumilla district, suffered fatal injuries in the early morning mishap.

“On his way home from work, Abdul Wadud was unfortunately hit by a train while crossing the railway line, leading to severe injuries to various parts of his body, including his head,” shared Bacchu Mia. “Despite the efforts of locals to rush him to the DMCH emergency ward, the doctors on duty were unable to save him.”

The incidents have been reported to Shahbagh and Dhaka Railway Police Stations, with the bodies of the deceased individuals currently held at the DMCH mortuary for further examination. The community mourns the loss of these two individuals and hopes for safer roads in the future to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring.
