The Maryland Department of State Police is currently investigating a devastating crash that took place on the inner loop of I-695 in Northwest Baltimore, resulting in the death of a Baltimore Police SWAT officer over the weekend.

Details of the Incident

The tragic incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when state police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the I-695 between Greenspring Avenue and I-83 Jones Falls Expressway. The collision involved a work van colliding with a flatbed tow truck that was towing a farm tractor.

The driver of the work van, identified as Anthony Gregory Ward, 36, was trapped on the driver’s side of the van following the collision. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services personnel, Ward was pronounced dead at the scene.

Condolences from Police Commissioner

Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley expressed his condolences, stating, “This is a terrible loss for Officer Ward’s family, his team members, and the Baltimore Police Department as a whole. My heart goes out to his loved ones. The Department extends its support and sympathies to them during this difficult time.”
