SIRSA: A man and three others were arrested by the Sirsa police in connection with the murder of his wife and her friend.

The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Karmjeet Kaur of Sirsa and her friend Priyanka, were killed when the accused hit their scooty with a truck on April 13. The arrested accused include Gurjit Singh (husband of deceased) of Nohar, Rajasthan, who is currently residing at Preet Nagar in Sirsa, and his three aides Gujjant Singh, Kuldeep, and Gurdeep Singh, all residents of Sirsa.

Sirsa city police station had lodged a case under sections 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC against Gurjit Singh, his brother Harjindra, and sister-in-law Manpreet alias Monika, all residents of Khairpur village of Sirsa district on the complaint of the deceased’s brother Angrez Singh, a resident of Jhunir village of Mansa district of Punjab.

In his complaint, Angrez stated that his elder sister Karmjeet Kaur got married to Gurjeet Singh 16 years ago and they have a 14-year-old son Navdeep Singh. He alleged that his sister and Gurjit used to fight frequently as the latter had an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law. Gurjeet is addicted to drinking and often used to beat Karmjeet, he alleged. He added that on Saturday, Karmjeet had told him over the phone that she, along with her friend Priyanka, was going to Chila Sahib gurdwara on a scooty.

The tragic incident has shocked the community in Sirsa, with many expressing their condolences to the families of the victims. The police are conducting further investigations to gather more evidence and bring the perpetrators to justice.
