California Mother Dies After Falling Off Cliff While Hiking in Arizona

Tragedy struck a California family on April 15 when Zaynab Joseph, a 40-year-old mother, fell off a cliff in Sedona, Arizona. Joseph was hiking with her husband and toddler at the time of the incident, which took place on Bear Mountain.

The Incident

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), a group of hikers heard yelling and discovered Joseph had fallen down a 140-foot cliff. One of the hikers went down to the embankment and found Joseph seriously injured. Despite efforts to save her, Joseph tragically passed away shortly after.

Response and Recovery

Authorities from the Sedona Fire Department and YCSO responded to the scene. While Joseph’s body was recovered, her husband and 1-year-old child were airlifted off the mountain. The family was staying at an Airbnb in Sedona at the time of the incident.

Remembering Zaynab Joseph

Zaynab Joseph was a part-time teacher at Orange Crescent School in Garden Grove, California. She was described as having a heart of gold and being dear to all who knew her. Her sister, Farwa Zaidi, expressed the pain their family is going through in a heartfelt Facebook message.

In another emotional post, Zaidi shared how much she will miss her sister and the impact Joseph had on her life. A quote from the poet Rumi that Joseph had shared on Facebook was also highlighted, adding to the remembrance of her spirit.

Investigation Ongoing

YCSO has spoken with hikers who were on the mountain and continues to investigate the incident. Joseph’s death has left a void in the lives of her loved ones, and the community mourns the loss of a beloved mother and teacher.
