On a fateful afternoon in Killeen, Texas, a heated argument between two friends took a tragic turn, resulting in a fatal shooting that shocked the local community. The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in a quiet neighbourhood on the 6300 block of Taree Loop.

Distress Call Leads to Devastating Discovery

At approximately 1:36 p.m., the Killeen police received a distress call from 26-year-old De’Tavius K. Smith, who reported that he had shot his friend inside a residence on Taree Loop. Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless body of 26-year-old Jarquis D. Pold, who had succumbed to gunshot wounds.

Justice of the Peace Nicola James arrived at the scene and pronounced Pold dead at 3:01 p.m., sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Killeen.

Suspected Shooter Found Dead in Lampasas County

Following the tragic incident, De’Tavius K. Smith was discovered lifeless in Lampasas County, having taken his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Lampasas County Justice of the Peace Dan Hause pronounced Smith deceased at 2:06 p.m., leaving authorities and residents grappling with the aftermath of the murder-suicide.
