Accident – Death – Obituary News :

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A man was convicted Wednesday for breaking into a St. Paul home and barricading himself inside with the family still there after he fatally shot another man at a nearby residence.

Tevon Antolwon King, 28, pleaded guilty to one count each of second-degree murder and first-degree burglary with a dangerous weapon. A second count of first-degree burglary was dismissed, according to court documents.

Details of the Incident

On June 7, 2023, officers were called to the 1100 block of White Bear Avenue just after midnight on reports of a man who had broken into a home and was holding residents hostage. The SWAT team arrived at the scene and successfully evacuated five people from the home.

King’s mother informed the police that he was experiencing a mental health crisis exacerbated by drug use, shedding light on the tragic situation.

Arrest and Discovery

Upon entering the home at around 3 a.m., officers found evidence of a violent altercation, including bullet holes and an empty 9mm handgun in the basement. King was apprehended, and two individuals were still inside the residence.

Later that morning, another residence on the block was discovered with a deceased man identified as 36-year-old James Harmon. Police believed the incident was connected to King, further deepening the gravity of the situation.

King’s Account

During questioning, King claimed to have no knowledge of the homes he found himself in that night. He recounted waking up on a trampoline with distant memories of a dog howling, painting a disorienting picture of the events leading to the tragedy.

King’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 5, marking the next chapter in this harrowing ordeal that has left a community in shock.
