Tragic Discovery on Highway 472 in Copiah County

The quiet stretch of Highway 472 near Rockport Road in Copiah County, Mississippi, became the scene of a horrifying discovery on Monday. The body of a missing man, later identified as Billy Ray Jones, Jr., was found burnt on the side of the road.

Sheriff Byron Swilley of Copiah County revealed that a father had come to his office to report his son missing. Shortly thereafter, Mississippi Department of Transportation crews stumbled upon the grim sight and promptly alerted the authorities.

Upon closer inspection, it was evident that the 54-year-old Jones had sustained burn wounds, indicating a violent end to his life.


Billy Ray Jones, Jr. was found dead on the side of Highway 472 in Copiah County.

Authorities wasted no time in pursuing leads, and their efforts led to the arrest of two individuals connected to Jones’s disappearance and murder. Matthew Nelson, aged 50, was apprehended and charged, while Tyrell Bridges, 32, was located at a mobile home on Windy Hill Road in Adams County two days later.
