Moreno Valley Murder: Man Pleads Guilty to Stabbing Girlfriend

A troubling incident unfolded in Moreno Valley, where a convicted felon, Ricardo Rivera, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for fatally stabbing his 23-year-old girlfriend, Ashley Brosious. The shocking act took place at Rivera’s home in the 23100 block of Denver Court, near Adeline Avenue.

On the fateful afternoon of January 17, 2019, deputies responded to reports of a woman in need of medical aid at Rivera’s residence. Upon arrival, they discovered Brosious deceased with evident signs of trauma. Rivera, who was present at the scene, was apprehended without resistance.

Details of the Crime

A knife, later identified as the murder weapon, was found inside the house. Rivera and Brosious had been in a romantic relationship for an unspecified period before the tragic incident occurred. Notably, Rivera had a previous conviction for domestic violence, involving a different individual prior to the fatal attack on Brosious.

Legal Proceedings

Rivera, 28, confessed to the murder under a plea agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, just as a jury was being selected for his trial at the Riverside Hall of Justice. As part of the agreement, prosecutors dropped the allegation of using a deadly weapon during the crime.

Superior Court Judge Jason Armand has scheduled a sentencing hearing for June 7, with both the prosecution and defense stipulating a term of 25 years to life in state prison for Rivera. Currently, he is being held without bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.

The motive behind the brutal killing remains unexplained, leaving many questions unanswered in this tragic incident that has rocked the community of Moreno Valley.
