Tragic Hit-and-Run Incident in Colorado Springs

A devastating hit-and-run incident in Colorado Springs has left the community in shock. The victim, identified as 59-year-old Allen J Yankowsky, tragically lost his life due to the reckless actions of another individual. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has been working tirelessly to bring justice to the family of the deceased.

Sad Turn of Events on a Fateful Afternoon

The incident took place on Tuesday, April 2, just after 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Academy and Astrozon Boulevards in Colorado Springs. Yankowsky, a motorcyclist, was travelling northbound when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Adbou Toraore, who was making a left-hand turn from southbound Academy. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to Yankowsky sustaining fatal injuries.

Swift Police Response and Arrest

Following the hit-and-run, Toraore fled the scene, causing further damage before crashing into a curb. A vigilant witness immediately contacted 911, enabling the Colorado Springs Police Department to locate and apprehend Toraore. Despite the efforts of the Colorado Springs Fire Department to save Yankowsky, he tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Community Mourns the Loss

The loss of Allen J Yankowsky has deeply impacted the Colorado Springs community. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on April 3 to formally identify Yankowsky, bringing a sense of closure to his loved ones. The driver responsible for this tragic incident is now facing serious charges, including Vehicular Homicide and DUI, as the legal proceedings continue.
