Two-Car Crash Involving School Van Sends Thirteen to Local Hospitals
Manchester Township, located in Ocean County, New Jersey, was the site of a tragic two-car crash on the morning of April 16, 2024. The incident took place at the intersection of County Route 571 and County Route 547, involving a Transit Van carrying students to school.
Upon reaching the scene, officers from the Manchester Township Police Department found a white 2020 Acura TLX with extensive damage on the passenger side and a black 2023 Ford Transit Passenger Van with severe front-end damage. The Ford was traveling southbound on County Road 547 when the Acura attempted to make a left turn onto County Road 571 northbound. As the Acura made the left turn, it crossed paths with the Ford, resulting in a collision that pushed the Acura off the road and into a parked black 2024 Mini Cooper.
The driver of the Acura, Tracey Kahn of Forked River, NJ, and the Ford driver, Dvora Katz of Jackson, NJ, both sustained facial lacerations and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The Ford was carrying eleven juvenile students, four of whom were taken to Jersey Shore University Hospital for further evaluation, while the remaining seven were transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus for treatment of minor injuries. Fortunately, all individuals involved are currently in stable condition.
Emergency responders from various agencies, including EMTs and firefighters from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, and Hatzolah of Central Jersey, assisted at the scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with failure to yield the right of way at an intersection and improper turning identified as the primary contributing factors. Ptl. Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Section is leading the investigation.
