Wakiso, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | In a tragic incident along Entebbe Road in Wakiso District, a fatal crash has left one person dead and two vehicles damaged, according to a press statement from the territorial police in Entebbe.
The incident occurred on April 17, 2024, around 8:30 am, along the busy Entebbe Road near the bustling Nkumba traffic lights. The area is known for its heavy traffic flow, especially during peak hours as commuters travel between Kampala and Entebbe.
Involved in the collision were three motor vehicles: motor vehicles s UBQ 371P Mitsubishi RVR, UAN 836B a concrete mixer, and UG 310006 T/Hilux. These vehicles were all traveling in the same direction towards Entebbe from Kampala and had come to a stop at the Nkumba traffic lights.
Suddenly, motor vehicle UAN 836B, a concrete mixer, lost control from behind and failed to brake. In an attempt to avoid collision with the vehicles ahead, the driver swerved, hitting a pavement on the roadside and overturning onto motor vehicle UBQ 371P.
Tragically, the driver of motor vehicle UBQ 371P, identified as Mr. Raphael Okoit, a 34-year-old lawyer working with MALDEF Advocates and a resident of Seeta, was killed instantly in the collision. Additionally, the same vehicle damaged motor vehicle UG 310006.
Upon receiving the distress call, territorial traffic police swiftly responded to the scene, retrieving the body of the deceased driver. Mr. Raphael Okoit’s body was transported to Mulago City mortuary for postmortem examination.

Both motor vehicles involved in the crash were towed to Entebbe Central Police Station pending further inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the driver of the concrete mixer UAN 836B, which caused the accident, has been detained as authorities continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences of reckless driving. Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
