A startling discovery was made by a homeowner who was remodeling their house in Springfield, Illinois. In the crawlspace of the residence, investigators uncovered human remains that have sparked a significant investigation.

Discovery Leads to Investigation

The Springfield Police Department received a call from the homeowner on a Sunday afternoon, reporting the finding of a purse in the crawlspace. The purse contained personal documents belonging to a missing person, Michelle Bianco. This prompted the authorities to contact the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, which was handling Bianco’s missing person case.

Skeletal Remains Located

The following day, further investigations at the property led to the discovery of skeletal remains just before noon. The sheriff’s office quickly called in an anthropologist from the Illinois State Museum to assist in identifying the remains.

Identification Confirmed

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed on the following day that the remains belonged to Michelle Bianco. The cause and manner of her death are currently under investigation.

Disappearance and Last Sighting

Michelle Bianco was last seen on April 5, 2008, walking with her cousin when she was approached by a man in a black Pontiac who offered her a ride home. Her cousin recounted that the man knew Bianco’s name, indicating a level of familiarity.

Missing Person Report

A missing person report was filed three days after Bianco’s disappearance. If she were alive today, she would have been 59 years old.
