Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Man Found Guilty in Woman’s Shooting Death Outside Indianapolis Hospital

A tragic incident unfolded outside Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, where a 42-year-old man, Gary Jackson Jr., has been convicted in the 2021 death of 41-year-old Joan Berry. Berry was shot multiple times and left on the ground outside the hospital before succumbing to her injuries.

Surveillance Footage Reveals Shocking Details

According to a probable cause affidavit, surveillance footage from the hospital captured the moment a blue Nissan Rogue pulled up to the emergency room entrance. Berry, identified as the victim, was seen falling from the vehicle to the ground before the car quickly drove away, running over her left arm and leg. The disturbing footage shed light on the callous nature of the crime.

Vehicle Search Leads to Incriminating Evidence

Following the incident, a search warrant was obtained and executed on Jackson’s vehicle. Investigators recovered fired cartridge casings and a black shoe matching the size and brand of the one worn by Berry when she was dropped off at the hospital. These pieces of evidence played a crucial role in the case against Jackson.

Conviction and Sentencing

After a three-day trial, Jackson was found guilty of murder and habitual offender sentencing enhancement. Despite the verdict, a sentencing hearing for Jackson had not yet been scheduled at the time of writing. The outcome of the trial brought a sense of closure to the victim’s loved ones, while also highlighting the importance of justice being served.
