Tragic Crane Accident in Nairobi’s Muthaiga Area
Police in Nairobi are currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred in Muthaiga, where a 28-year-old crane operator lost his life after falling from a high-rise building under construction. The man, identified as Fredrick Matei Tumbo, was in the process of moving the crane from the twelfth floor to the tenth when the unfortunate accident took place.
Construction Site Tragedy
According to reports from both police and witnesses, Tumbo slid and fell, landing on the ground floor, resulting in instant death. The construction works at the site came to a halt as authorities and an ambulance swiftly responded to the scene. The deceased was among the many workers present at the construction site when the incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, April 16.
Investigations and Safety Measures
Authorities have highlighted that this incident is just one in a series of similar occurrences affecting construction workers. Many of these tragic incidents happen due to various factors, including a lack of proper safety gear. Several cases are currently under investigation, with Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei affirming that appropriate action will be taken where necessary.

In a separate incident, two workers found themselves trapped after a quarry collapsed in a landslide at the Maragi Quarry in Muranga. The heavy rains that the region has been experiencing are believed to have contributed to the collapse. Fortunately, locals were able to rescue the workers, who were then rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities have issued warnings about the increased risk of such incidents due to the ongoing heavy rains. Fatal landslides have been reported in various parts of the country, including Suneka, Kisii, Narok, and Rift Valley.
