Shooting Near Armature Works in Tampa Leaves Several Injured

Last week in Tampa, a disturbing incident unfolded near the popular Armature Works, resulting in multiple injuries and a tense police investigation. According to court documents, the altercation that led to the shooting began with a seemingly innocuous act – water being thrown during an argument in a public restroom.

Details of the Incident

The situation quickly escalated when Jaimartez Young, 19, turned himself in on charges related to the shooting, including attempted first-degree murder. Three individuals, including a pregnant woman, were injured in the gunfire. Gabriel Catuy, 17, was arrested the following day for attempted second-degree murder.

Sequence of Events

Young’s attorney, Rick Escobar, revealed that Young’s 13-year-old brother was shot by Catuy. A witness recounted that Young’s brother instigated the confrontation by throwing water on an unnamed victim in the restroom. This action prompted the victim to confront Young’s brother, leading to threats of retaliation.

Retaliation and Gunfire

Surveillance footage captured Young and his brother returning to the scene near Stone’s Throw Restaurant, with Young brandishing a gun. Multiple shots were fired towards the victim from the initial restroom altercation. In a chaotic turn of events, the victim was handed a firearm and returned fire towards Young and his brother.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Tampa police utilized advanced technology, including facial recognition software and license plate reader cameras, to track down the suspects. A social media account linked to the fleeing suspect provided crucial evidence, leading to the identification of Young as a potential suspect. Investigators also located a black Toyota Avalon associated with Young’s known associate.

Legal Proceedings and Future Steps

Young’s attorney plans to contest the charges, and a court hearing is scheduled for Friday. Meanwhile, Hillsborough State Attorney Suzy Lopez announced intentions to charge Catuy as an adult in connection with the incident. The community remains on edge as the investigation continues into this harrowing event near Armature Works.
