The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Releases Body Cam Footage of Officer-Involved Shooting in San Marco

In a recent incident that took place in San Marco, Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released two video clips from body cam footage capturing an officer-involved shooting. The incident occurred nearly three weeks ago on March 30, when the sheriff’s office received a call about a 49-year-old man who was seen stabbing himself near Bertha Street.

The man, who has a documented history of mental illness, was spotted wielding a knife on Atlantic Boulevard and Belote Place by officers Veale and Easterly. The first video shows Officer Veale approaching the man as he raises the knife, ignoring commands to drop it. In response, Veale fires his gun while Easterly uses a taser to subdue the man, who falls to the ground in agony.

Details of the Incident

Following the shooting, the officers instruct the man to roll onto his stomach and show his hands for handcuffing. The individual, identified as an ex-convict with a criminal record of armed robbery, burglary, and kidnapping, as well as three prior Baker Acts, remains in critical condition.
