Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Two Tribal Women in Dhanbad, Jharkhand
Two tribal women tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident that occurred in Dhanbad, a district located in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand. The incident took place at Velwabera, a remote village situated approximately 200 km away from the state capital, Ranchi.
The victims, identified as Petison Devi, aged 30, and Shanti Devi, aged 25, were engaged in digging clay in a deep tunnel as part of a renovation project for their houses when disaster struck. The women were working alongside two others when a sudden collapse of soil trapped them under a heap of debris.
According to Shiv Kumar, the in-charge of Maniyadih police station, the tragic event unfolded around 5 pm on Monday. While Petison Devi succumbed to her injuries on the spot, Shanti Devi fought for her life but tragically passed away during treatment at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital later that night.
Local villagers recounted the harrowing ordeal, describing how the four women were caught unaware by the sudden collapse of the tunnel. Miraculously, two of the women managed to escape with minor injuries and raised the alarm, alerting others to the dire situation.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by individuals engaged in manual labor in hazardous conditions. The community is left mourning the loss of two precious lives and grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy.
