RANCHI: Two tribal women tragically lost their lives as a heap of soil caved in while they were digging clay in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, according to the police on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Velwabera, approximately 200 km from Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi. The deceased individuals were identified as Petison Devi (30) and Shanti Devi (25).

The incident occurred at approximately 5 pm on Monday, as stated by Maniyadih police station in-charge Shiv Kumar. Petison Devi tragically passed away on the spot, while Shanti Devi sadly succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad on Monday night.

According to villagers, the four women were digging clay in a deep tunnel for the renovation of their houses. Suddenly, a heap of clay caved in, trapping all four women in debris.

Two women who received minor injuries managed to come out from the debris and informed the villagers about the incident, police said.

The incident has left the entire community in shock, with locals expressing their condolences to the families of the deceased women. The authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the tragic incident.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by individuals engaged in manual labor in hazardous conditions. The local community is urged to take necessary precautions to prevent such accidents in the future.
