Teen faces attempted murder charges in Henderson drug deal gone wrong
A 17-year-old teenager from Henderson, Nevada, is currently facing attempted murder charges after a drug deal turned violent earlier this month. The incident took place in an apartment complex located in the 4400 block of Escondido Street in Las Vegas.
Police response and injuries
On April 1, Las Vegas police responded to a call at the mentioned apartment complex around 4:16 p.m. Upon arrival, they found two teenagers at the scene, one with a gunshot wound to the arm and the other with a gunshot wound to the head. Both victims were rushed to Sunrise Hospital for medical treatment.
Suspect and attempted drug deal
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Lucas Murphy, was present at the scene to sell “wax pens” to a group of teenagers. One of the teens involved in the incident had contacted Murphy to purchase three pens for $70. However, it was later revealed that the teen did not have the money and planned to steal the pens instead.
Shooting and aftermath
Prior to the shooting, the teen approached Murphy with his phone in hand to make it appear as though he was ready to pay. However, he grabbed the pens and ran, triggering the violent altercation. The teen heard gunshots while fleeing and later discovered he had been shot in the arm. Another juvenile from the group was found to be missing, and police located them outside with a gunshot wound.
Arrest and charges
Police identified Murphy driving a light blue Ford Mustang in the area through surveillance footage from CCSD. They traced the vehicle back to Murphy’s residence in Henderson, where he was caught attempting to hide the car. Murphy was arrested and currently faces three counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm at an occupied structure. He was released on bail and electronic monitoring on April 4 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 24.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with illegal drug deals and the potential consequences that can arise from such activities.
