A tragic incident unfolded in Springfield on Sunday afternoon when a 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody after a deadly shooting. The Springfield police and medics responded to a distressing call around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday in the 800 block of South Center Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman, identified as Tiffany Higgins, 38, of Springfield, with multiple gunshot wounds inside a home.

During the investigation, officers received information that the suspect had made threats to shoot unknown individuals at an undisclosed school. In response, the Springfield Police Division, in collaboration with the Springfield City School district and local schools within the City of Springfield and Clark County, decided to close schools for March 18 as a precautionary measure.

The suspect was apprehended around 1:00 a.m. after the Ohio State Highway Patrol was alerted about a stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle, a 2012 GMC Acadia, was driven by the 16-year-old suspect. News Center 7 is not disclosing the suspect’s identity as he is a juvenile.

Suspect Arrested After Police Pursuit

A trooper from the Springfield Post located the stolen vehicle on E. Rose Street in Springfield. An attempted traffic stop led to a pursuit as the suspect failed to stop. During the chase, the suspect lost control of the vehicle, crashing into two utility poles and a house in the 500 block of Linden Avenue.

The suspect then fled on foot but was eventually taken into custody after failing to comply with verbal commands from the trooper. Additional details regarding the incident have not been released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
